Camphor Custom One single-family residence · Eastbluff · Newport Beach
A ground-up custom home in Eastbluff, the neighborhood on the bluff above Upper Newport Bay. Completed in 2026.
From the street the house reads as a set of stacked volumes, not a single façade. A tower in rough-textured stone anchors the entry. Smooth white plaster wraps one side and a darker volume in vertical board wraps the other, all under flat roofs with deep overhangs.
Inside, the main room runs the full two stories. An open-riser oak stair floats against a textured plaster wall while a cascade of globe pendants drops through the height of the space. The same light oak carries through the slatted railings, the millwork, and the kitchen, where a waterfall stone island sits under backlit shelving.
Outside
Out back, concrete pads set in turf run the length of the yard under a row of palms. Out front, raised plaster planters hold yucca and agave. It’s a drought-tolerant palette that suits the architecture and needs very little from the coastal climate.
